The ISO 216 (International Organization for Standardization) paper size system (e.g. A4) tells us that each size is half of the one that goes before it. What is the Standard Paper Size?
A4 (210 x 297mm or 8.3 x 11.7 inches) is the most common paper size in the UK. A4 is also the standard printer paper size.

A0 size measures 84.1 x 118.9cm, 841 x 1,189mm and 33.1 x 46.8 inches. It’s typically used for technical drawings, large posters, architectural plans, large-format artwork and exhibition graphics and usually needs a professional or large-format printer.
What is A1 Paper Size?
A1 paper is 59.4 x 84.1cm, 594 x 841mm and 23.4 x 33.1 inches. A1-size paper is used for posters, flipcharts, technical drawings, presentation materials and large diagrams.
What is A2 Paper Size?
A2-size paper measures 42.0 x 59.4cm, 420 x 594mm and 16.5 x 23.4 inches. A2 paper is larger than A3, which is half the size of A2. It’s used for medium posters, diagrams, architectural drawings, artwork and display graphics.
What Camera Resolution Do You Need for A0, A1 and A2 Prints?
When printing photo-quality large-format prints, image resolution is important. Generally, larger prints like A0, A1 and A2 require high-resolution image files, particularly if they’re going to be viewed up close.

Small Paper Sizes: A6, A7, A8, A9 and A10 Explained
What is A6 Paper Size?
A6 paper size measures 10.5 x 14.8cm, 105 x 148mm and 4.1 x 5.8 inches. A6 paper is half the size of A5 and is the standard postcard size in the UK. As well as postcards, A6-size paper is often used for invitations, greetings cards, small flyers and brochures and pocket-sized printed materials.
Can You Print A6 at Home?
While some printers can handle A6 paper, you may need to use custom settings in order to do so. Alternatively, you can use the manual feed or opt to get it printed professionally.
What is A7 Paper Size?
A7 paper measures 7.4 x 10.5cm, 74 x 105mm and 2.9 x 4.1 inches. It’s usually used for small cards, labels, tickets, large sticky-note style prints and professional print layouts.
Is A7 Too Small for Written Text?
Yes it is, it’s better suited to short notes, labels, cards or visual elements.
How Many A7 Sheets Fit on A4?
You can fit eight A7 sheets on one A4 sheet.
What is A8 Paper Size?
A8-size paper measures 5.2 x 7.4cm, 52 x 74mm and 2.0 x 2.9 inches. It’s used for small cards, business-card-style prints, bank-card-style prints, labels, mini inserts and vouchers. While an A4 sheet can fit multiple A8-sized designs, the exact number depends on margins, bleed and print layout.
What Are A9 and A10 Paper Sizes?

A9 paper is used for small tickets, vouchers, labels and mini cards. A10 paper is used for miniature inserts, stamps and tiny labels.
B Paper Sizes Explained
B sizes aren’t as common as A-size paper and are used for larger printing tasks such as posters, wall charts, design projects and large documents. They’re also used for passports, advertising materials and magazines.
C Paper Sizes and Envelopes
C-size paper is usually used for envelopes that are designed to fit A-size paper. Envelope sizes available include C4 (A4), C5 (A5) and DL (A4 sheet of paper folded into 3).
- C4 envelopes are capable of holding an A4 sheet of paper and measure 229 x 324mm.
- C5 envelopes will fit an A4 piece of paper that’s been folded in half and measure 162 x 229mm.
Other C Sizes
- C3 envelopes measure 324 x 458mm or 12.8 x 18 inches and are used to send A3 documents.
- C6 envelopes = 4.5 x 6.4 inches or 114 x 162mm.
- C7 envelopes = 81 x 114mm.
Are UK Paper Sizes Different to US Paper Sizes?
The UK uses the ISO 216 system, which includes A, B and C series paper sizes. The US uses sizes including Letter, Legal and Tabloid.
