Making black marks on paper

Last time I ordered a Brother drum, the sales person called me and asked me if I wanted to swap the drum to an own brand. I reluctantly agreed and told her that I am reluctant, because the previous one made black marks on the paper. She said I should have reported it, because they would have sent a replacement. I explained that I don't have time to keep on returning stuff, I would rather pay more and then guarantee that it will work . Anyway I agreed on the own brand again. Today I had to work on reception and haven't really seen how the drum works. But today noted heavy black marks on the edges of the paper, when I asked the staff, how long it has been like that they said for awhile.
