Wi-Fi/Ethernet connectivity, double-sided printing, a 30-page automatic document feeder; these are just some of the features included with the Canon Pixma MX525.

The connectivity options mean the printer can be shared between multiple PCs and it has a 6.2cm TFT display that will let users print without the need for a PC. There’s also an Easy-PhotoPrint app from Canon that allows you to print or scan to or from your mobile devices.

Additionally, Apple AirPrint is supported so you can print photos, emails, web pages and other documents direct from your Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Office productivity is aided by the Pixma MX525’s 30-page automatic document feeder. There is also the added benefit of double-sided printing which can help you cut your paper costs in half whilst XL cartridges will help make your printing go further.

A compact, easy-to-use machine, selected functions and preview images can be viewed on a large 6.2cm colour screen.

When it comes to speed of performance, there’s an A4 document print speed of 9.7ipm for mono and 5.5ipm for colour, the MX525 can produce an A4 colour copy in approximately 21 seconds.

These speeds are behind the claim from Canon that this printer is “perfect for speedy, quality printing of documents and images at home or (at the) office”.

Review

According to Canon, the Pixma MX525 printer is a high performance office all-in-one machine which is ideal for both the home and small office environment.

At first glance, the MX525 is certainly a stylish model which wouldn’t look out of place in an office and is compact enough to go relatively unnoticed in the home. But the way it looks is only half the story for a machine that has a number of excellent features and is available for an affordable price.

With a 100-page capacity, this device also benefits from a 30-sheet ADF (automatic document feeder) as well as offering auto-duplexing (double-sided printing) as standard. All this is good news for a small office looking for a machine that can cope well with a good amount of daily printing and also have the ability to copy, scan and fax.

Print speeds are decent too and even a photograph will be churned out in around 46 seconds. That said, the two cartridge ink cartridge system means that there is the common question mark over the sharpness of images. By using one black and one tri-colour cartridge, you are also in the unenviable position of having to replace the entire tri-colour cartridge as soon as one colour runs dry.

As ever, with modern day printers, wireless printing is offered and Android, Windows and Apple devices are also included, with access to Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print.

The build quality, as with most Canon devices is good and although the MX525 is missing a touchscreen, it’s an omission which helps keep the base price moderately low.
