Canon’s FINE cartridge system will offer a print resolution of 4800dpi to help your prints benefit from a high level of detail. Showing that this level of quality can be achieved quickly, this machine has print speeds of up to 8ipm for mono and 4ipm for colour.

Another added benefit for users is that XL ink cartridges are available for this machine, allowing you to make your printing go further and offer up to a 30 per cent saving per page which is ideal for frequent printing.

In terms of the web printing functionality that the Canon Pixma MG2550 has, there is an Auto Clip function in the Easy-WebPrint EX plugin that will allow you to simply print only the information that you need from the internet. Additionally, you can select information from multiple web pages and place these on one single document to cut down on paper wastage.

As well as having features designed to reduce your paper expenditure, the MG2550 has features aimed at saving you energy in the form of the Auto Power On and Auto Power Off functions. These will see the printer turn itself on once a print job has been sent and then turn itself off after a certain period of inactivity.

The printer’s My Image Garden software will “uncover the full PIXMA experience”, according to Canon. Able to offer solutions for organising, printing and scanning your photographs; the software can search through all of the photographs on your PC using face recognition.

An entry-level addition to Canon’s most recent range of multifunction printers, the Pixma MG2550 is smaller and lighter than its predecessor, the MG2250, with a footprint of 42 x 30 x 14cm and a weight of just 3.5kg.

As is the norm with modern Canon models, the design is compact and perfect for a desk, though the paper input and cartridge compartments no longer featuring at the front (as they do on the MG2250) will make it difficult to place on a shelf.

The MG2550 holds a maximum of 60 sheets and features basic one-touch controls for simple printing. Speed is comparable to similar models: seven pages per minute in black and six pages per minute in mono. Colour photos (10 x 15cm) take around 50 seconds to print, which is quicker than some rival machines. A max printing resolution of 4800 x 600dpi allows for good quality prints in both photos and documents.

Scanning is particularly fast on this machine, taking less than 15 seconds to scan photos and documents from a computer with decent results at 1200 x 2400dpi. The copier is equally as effective, printing black-and-white pages in 20 seconds and colour in 47 seconds.

Consuming just 8W when running and 2W on standby, and performing at just 48dB(A), the printer is also one of the most efficient and quietest Pixma printers on the market.
