Perfect own brand toner replacement

Not long after purchasing a yellow toner cartridge from another supplier, my printer started playing up, with ‘unable to calibrate & colour correct’ messages. I decided to change the other 3 cartridges (this time from Cartridge People), thinking it may be because they were becoming low, but I still got the error warnings. I tried all the usual tips, ie. update drivers, uninstall/reinstall etc. with no joy. Customers Services at Cartridge People were extremely helpful with advice, but after contacting the printer manufacturer, and trying their suggestions, they suspected, due to its age it had become incompatible with my computer’s latest update. I started to wonder if it might be the yellow cartridge, due to the problems starting a few weeks after I’d installed it, so as a last resort, before buying a new printer, I purchased this one. Success at last👍 my printer is now working perfectly. I 100% recommend their own brand replacement cartridges, and also their help

Lower prices, but what's the long-term and environmental cost?

It's the first time I've gone away from Canon originals (because previous experiences with other printers have been very poor, so I was highly sceptical). The immediate cost saving versus a Canon cartridge is significant at around £20. The cartridge appears to work well, but it's far too soon to assess how it will perform in terms of length of life and print quality over lifespan. The main thing that depressed me is that Canon offer a free return/recycling of spent cartridges, but the own brand puts all the responsibility on the consumer. I'm fed up with recycling being framed as a consumer problem. It's a manufacturer problem that needs to be addressed at source, including disposal/recycling of goods. Now, it will take time & effort to track down a local recycling method & will no doubt involve significant extra effort for me to take it somewhere out of my way, so I'm wondering if the initial cost saving will be worth it in the long run.
