    Nice Little Printer

This is a really nice small printer. Once you’ve loaded the paper, the tray sticks out at the back near the bottom—but this helps keep the overall dimensions compact. In my opinion, it’s a good compromise. Setup is easy. Entering the Wi-Fi password on the small control panel is straightforward. I didn’t have to install any drivers or apps—it worked immediately with both my iPhone and Linux system. It was recognised straight away. There’s a power button on the front, and print delivery after startup is very quick. Mine came with three manuals, all written in what I think is Russian. As a result, I initially missed the step of removing the paper insert and tag from the toner before the printer would work. If, like me, you’re a very occasional printer user, you can keep it covered with the plastic bag it was packed in. This helps keep dust off and will make it last for many years. When you find something better to protect it, you can use that instead.

    Xerox B230 mono laser printer

I bought the Xeros B230 mono laser printer from CartridgePeople to replace a previous Brother laser that died, for light home office use. This printer is half the size and weight of the printer it's replacing, yet has more functionality with wired network, wireless and direct USB connections. I use it on the wired network connection with Linux. The printer was easy to install using the supplied ppd driver file as it supports Postscript and PCL5/6. Overall it's a great little laser printer for home use and a good alternative to the similarly speced Brother printer. This was the first time I'd used CartridgePeople and the experience was flawless. Printer arrived quickly by DPD and I was kept informed of the order progress throughout by email.

    Just the job

Very smart low cost laser print for when colour is not necessary and no more than A4 required. Easily set up to print from iPad using Wi-Fi.

Good for documents, but not for graphics

I bought the Xerox B230 printer to run with MacOS Catalina because it seemed a versatile and thrifty model. My UK version shipped with a blank installation CD. Fortunately, a XeroxDrivers.dmg file for Catalina downloaded from Xerox's website via Safari (not Firefox) and installed itself successfully. Connection was easy – I tried USB cable, wireless and ethernet cable to my router. Printing parameters were accessed through a tortuous menu by way of repeated button presses. A less tedious method was to browse the printer's menu options via its local IP address, though this was unavailable when connected solely by USB cable without wireless. The wattages I measured in various states of activity were good and conformed broadly to Xerox's claims. An undocumented blue release-tab at the rear of the streamfeed paper-tray enabled me to extend it backwards to accommodate US Letter, A4 and US Legal sizes. With care, the manual feed was able to deliver a sheet of A4 80gsm, 1-sided or 2-sided, adequately aligned on the paper. It is said to print 1-sided on weights up to 200gsm. When compared to my defunct inkjet, print quality appeared somewhat anaemic and the B230's graphic images were inferior (barred, appearing as if swept with a dry brush) but type was needle-sharp right down to tiny point sizes. I have been happily printing miniature A5 copies of A4 digital originals for my files.
