What these original ink cartridges provide customers with is an exceptional quality of colour that will give you results you'll want to keep. As we have already mentioned above, the HP 901 and HP 901XL ink cartridges were released shortly after the HP 21 / HP 22 range had entered the consumables market.
A popular choice at first, the HP 901 hasn't quite reached the heights of the HP 21 / HP 22 that preceded it or even the HP 301 that followed it.
A printhead cartridge, this technology allows printer owners to benefit from a new printhead every time they replace the cartridge. What also hasn't altered is the high reliability that follows HP ink cartridges. HP describes the HP 901 / HP 901XL range as offering "laser-quality Black text that resists fading".
Perhaps the reason for a drop in the HP 901's popularity is that HP may have been using the 901 as an opportunity to test out some new printer ink technology and it could be argued that the success of the HP 301 is indicative of this.
Though the HP 901 in general is perhaps suffering a slight drop in popularity, there is still a demand for the remanufactured cartridges that are compatible with the HP 901.
Representing a cost-effective solution for customers, a key point of note when considering whether you should make the original-to-compatible switch is that when it comes to ink capacity, the genuine XL cartridges don't offer as much ink per cartridge as the XL compatible cartridges available.
This means that as well as enjoying a cheaper base price in comparison to HP's branded consumables, customers can also make their printing go further with the XL cartridges.
Importantly, it's not just a case where you are getting a cheaper product and seeing your print quality suffer. With our stringent tests, we make sure that the quality of our customer's printing isn't compromised.

Unfortunately, the HP 902 and 901 ink cartridges are not interchangeable with one another. To ensure that you can continue to print as usual, ensure you buy HP 901 ink if your printer specifies to do so.
It is possible to refill the HP 901 cartridge. We have created a comprehensive guide on How To Refill Ink Cartridges if you are looking for further information.
