Founded in 1959 by Max M. and Robert K. Low and named after the former's son-in-law, Robert S. Savin, Savin is best known for its liquid toner photocopiers and, more recently, its range of digital imaging systems.
Competing against the likes of Xerox, Kodak and IBM, Savin was able to establish its own niche and became highly respected for its patented copiers throughout the 1960s, '70s, and '80s. With products manufactured by Ricoh, the company was able to expand beyond the US and Canada and into Europe, eventually listing on the New York Stock Exchange.
In 1995, Savin was acquired by Ricoh and now operates as a sales subsidiary for the Japanese brand, marketing a full line of office equipment including black laser printers, multifunction systems, digital duplicators, wide format printers, and facsimile products. Additionally, the company offers a variety of document and printing solutions that are aimed at improving productivity in the workplace.
