The Newcastle Male Chorus was formed in 1984 as the result of a press advertisement, and soon became one of the North East of England’s most popular choirs, with acclaimed concerts throughout the region, and also further afield in Scotland, Yorkshire, Lancashire, South West England and Newcastle’s twin town of Gelsenkirchen in Germany. They were prize-winners in four successive years in Huddersfield Male Voice Choir Championship, and won first prizes at a number of the Northern competitive festivals. In recent years, the choir has sung in prestigiousvenues that include Gibside Chapel, Durham and Blackburn Cathedrals, Sheffield Arena, Huddersfield Town Hall, Hexham Abbey, the Royal Albert Hall.  The choir has sung with many talented soloists including the People’s Tenor, Russell Watson at Glasgow and Newcastle Arenas. The choir is recognised as one of the leading male choirs in the North East, and fulfil a busy concert schedule. 2011 is fully booked, with invites confirmed for 2012.

Singing in support of other charities is of great importance to the choir, and concerts so far this year have been given for Children in Africa, British Lung Foundation,Action for Children, Christian Aid and The Alzheimer’s Society.The choir is a member of the National Association of Choirs. Their accompanist,David Scott, a talented musician, is also Principal Organist at Brunswick MethodistChurch, Newcastle and accompanist for The Gibside Singers. Their Director ofMusic, Doris Williams, also directs The Gibside Singers, and is a Vice President andMusic Consultant for the National Association of Choirs.Singing is a most enjoyable and rewarding way to spend your leisure time.
