There are plenty of multifunctional devices on the printer market these days but that’s not to say there isn’t still a demand for machines that can simply print.

The Canon Pixma iP4850 fits that single function description though that doesn’t mean this machine can be called ‘basic’. Being able to print on CDs/DVDs is a welcome bonus for those who prefer to personalise their media, for example.

For a home user, the compact design is ideal and the machine can easily sit on a desktop and even won’t look out of place in a university student’s room. Where students are concerned, the double-sided printing available is an excellent feature for printing out reports and documents without needing to unnecessarily waste paper.

Print speeds are impressive too. Documents can be produced at 11ipm in mono or 9.3ipm in colour.

There may be no Wi-Fi connectivity available or even any memory card slots, but for such a low price printer it’s difficult to argue against the quality of prints or the speed at which it can produce results.
