Cons: exorbitant cost of ink cartridges

I have had my Dell AIO 810 for some years and have found it to perform well as scanner, copier and printer. However, it has two design faults, one serious. First, the operating buttons are proud of the surface and it is very easy to press them accidentally, with resultant waste of paper, ink and time. These operating buttons need to be inset slightly into the surface so that it is less easy to press them accidentally. Secondly, it is very easy for things to slip down into the paper feed and get lost there as there is no easy way to remove them. Recently, I came very close to writing the machine off when a small plastic envelope got into the paper feed and completely blocked it. It was only with considerable difficulty that this was eventually removed. The paper feed needs some sort of protection to prevent things falling into it. Also, it should be redesigned so that it is much easier to get at the paper feed to resolve any problems.

Finally, the cost of ink cartridges is exorbitant, probably the most expensive available. Also, recent cartridges seem to contain much less ink than previously. DELL seem to do all they can to discourage the use of recycled cartridges and, probably as a result of this, such recycled cartridges as are available do not give good results. I am not aware of the current price of this printer, although when I purchased it it was competitively priced. It thus seems to me that DELL sell their printers cheaply but make their money by ripping off the customer with the ink cartridges!

On the basis of its performance I would give this machine 5 stars, but as a result of the design faults and exorbitantly priced ink cartridges I feel that I have to bring this down to 3 stars.
